Seiji Ozawa, the living spirit of music

Seiji Ozawa is one of the last living legends of the golden age of conducting. A student of Charles Munch and Herbert von Karajan, assistant to Leonard Bernstein, he conducted the prestigious Boston Symphony Orchestra for 30 years. Wearing red Nike’s and a baseball cap, the octogenarian does not have the look of a traditional conductor. However, he continues to inspire the admiration and respect of musicians and audiences alike with his passion and commitment. In 2004, he founded the Seiji Ozawa International Academy Switzerland, where he teaches young musicians to play chamber music and to practice the orchestral form.
In 2015, 27 musicians from this academy were welcomed at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. In this documentary, the testimonies of the young musicians are combined with those of the conductor to give an account of the joy and richness of this intergenerational encounter.
